The Armstrongs Are Millionaires

On 11th May, William and Mary Armstrong each spent $10 on Mega Millions and Powerball tickets at Flat Creek Resort, Cape Fair, before going out for dinner in Branson, Missouri. It wasn’t until three days later that they realised their decision had paid off after they matched all five Mega Millions numbers to become instant millionaires.

Although they narrowly missed out on the $45 million jackpot after failing to match the Mega Ball 22, they won their seven-figure prize after the numbers 14, 38, 40, 53 and 70 were drawn. They beat odds of 1 in 12,607,306 to win, alongside two other Match 5 winners on the night.

They Jumped Up And Down With Joy

Reflecting on the moment they realised they had a winning ticket in their hands, Mary said: “I waited until he (William) got home from work and asked him if he had those tickets. They were in his truck, so I asked him to go get them. He was kind of annoyed with me that he had to go back out to the truck”.

Mary said that the couple checked the winning numbers on MOLottery.com after William returned. “We were jumping up and down, crying. We always joked about winning. We don’t need $500 million: just give us $1 million and we will be all good”, she added.

William plans to retire next year and the couple have outlined their ambitions to use some of the prize money to renovate part of their home before selling the property and relocating to Branson. “She’s not letting me go out and buy any new toys yet”, he said.

Follow In The Footsteps of William and Mary

Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot currently stands at $161 million after rolling over for 11 consecutive drawings. The top prize hasn’t been won since a single ticket holder from Ohio took home $143 million on Friday 4th May.

Saturday’s Powerball drawing is worth an estimated $137 million following seven rollovers, after the $315 million jackpot was scooped by a player in New Jersey last month. Visit our Lottery Tickets page and, like the Armstrongs, you might just become a millionaire once the winning numbers have been revealed this weekend.
