Wyoming Lottery to Introduce In-State Game
Wednesday January 14th 2015The CEO of the Wyoming Lottery has announced plans to introduce an in-state draw game for residents. Over $6.5 million in ticket sales has been raised since the Lottery opened for business in the Cowboy State on August 24th last year. Until now, players could only purchase tickets for Mega Millions and Powerball; state-level lottery games were unavailable. However, CEO Jon Clontz is set to unveil additional Wyoming Lottery games this year, with more details being made available on Friday.
Clontz described the new game as a “weekly in-state lotto game” that would offer a starting jackpot of $250,000. A great deal of research went into the creation of the game, with officials using focus groups across the state to find out exactly what players might want from a state-based game. In addition to the shortened odds of winning bigger prizes due to playing solely with Wyoming residents, the game should hopefully raise more revenue for the state.
Another two games are set to debut this summer - Pick 3 and a variation of the “All or Nothing” game popular with other state lotteries throughout the country. There are no current plans to introduce instant-win games as the legislation authorizing the creation of the Wyoming Lottery explicitly forbids them from being sold.
Wyoming Lottery players have won more than $843,000 in the last few months alone just from playing Powerball and Mega Millions. Given the relatively low population in the state, the amount of interest generated by residents has proved that lottery games in Wyoming have been a great success.
Lottery.net will report on the new game as soon as more information is made available.
