First up is the famous El Gordo Navidad – known as the Big One, or the Christmas Lottery. It is an annual draw held in Spain on 22nd December 2012 with a prize pool of a massive €2.52 billion, making it the biggest lottery in the world! This lottery is a little like a raffle, drawing five digit numbers from the drums known as bombos, and there are a whole host of prizes on offer, with a top prize of €4 million. However, each five digit ticket is sold in series of 180, which means 180 players will win that top prize! Yes, that’s right – 180 will win €4 million each! For more on the El Gordo, visit the homepage on loterianacionale.com, where you can also buy tickets – if you are quick!

Also of interest is the Mega Sena Mega Da Virada lottery, which is held annually in Brazil on 31st December 2012. It has a top prize of R$180 million on offer (which equates to about USD $85 million) for the player to match all six numbers from a possible 60.

Of course one lottery everyone is familiar with is the Euromillions, which will see a special version of the UK Millionaire raffle held on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. There will be 25 £1 million prizes on offer on each draw, as well as the massive Euromillions jackpot – which is currently estimated at €100 million for the draw tonight.

We at Lottery.net would like to wish all our readers a very Merry Christmas, and good luck on whatever lottery you decide to play. We will be back with the latest world and USA lottery news after the festive break.
