We Finally Have Another Powerball Winner From Georgia
Thursday October 24th 2024On Wednesday night a Georgia player hit the Powerball jackpot of $478.2 million - marking another huge win in the state which has been eight years in the making.
We would have to go all the way back to September 2016 for the last Georgia Powerball winner. This was when married couple William and Heather ten Broeke managed to walk away with $246,800,000. There have now been a total of seven winners from the state, but this latest jackpot win has been the biggest of them all.
A Huge Powerball Jackpot Win
It's been three months since the last Powerball winner, when a player from Pennsylvania matched six main numbers and took home roughly $213 million. Since then the top prize has risen to this incredible amount, finally being won in Georgia.
The winning numbers for the draw were 2, 29, 15, 27, 39 with a Powerball of 20. While there was only one winning ticket that matched all six numbers, there were a number of enormous wins across the states. View a full breakdown of the draw here.
In total there were 616,154 winners who picked up prizes on the night. Notably, two players from Texas and Pennsylavania are now $1 million richer after they matched all five of the main numbers. The x2 multiplier was also effectively used to double thousands of players' prize amounts.
What Do We Know About the Winner?
So far all we know about the latest jackpot winner is that they come from Georgia. Their name has not been revealed as of yet and we don’t know whether they will go public or not.
Winners of lottery prizes greater than $250,000 have the right to remain anonymous under Georgia law. All they have to do is write a request to the Georgia lottery when collecting their winnings. Now that the Powerball has been won, the jackpot has reset to $20 million. We have no idea when or where we will find our next winner.
