Three Powerball Drawings a Week From August 23
Thursday March 11th 2021Powerball will soon be played three times a week, with a Monday drawing added to the calendar from August 23 and a new Double Play option adding more ways to win. Lucky for Life is also going daily from July.
Powerball Moves to Monday
The news of a third weekly Powerball drawing has been announced by the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), which helps to administer games that are offered in more than one jurisdiction.
Drawings have taken place every Wednesday and Saturday since Powerball began in April 1992, and the game has reached record-breaking jackpot levels within that set-up. A top prize of $1.58 billion was split three ways in January 2016 – the largest lottery payout seen anywhere in the world.
The introduction of a Monday drawing will see players given the chance to aim for huge jackpot even more regularly.
Drawings will continue to be held on Saturdays and Wednesdays. The winning numbers will be selected at 10:59pm Eastern Time on all three nights, from the Powerball draw studio at the Florida Lottery in Tallahassee.
Double Play Add-On
Starting August 23, a brand-new Powerball option called Double Play will be available from 13 lotteries, with the potential for more to offer the add-on later.
Double Play may be added to a Powerball ticket for an extra $1, and gives players an additional chance to win with their numbers in a second draw held right after the Powerball draw. Double Play will have a top cash prize of $10 million up for grabs.
The jurisdictions initially offering Double Play are Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Washington.
Lucky for Life Draws Every Day
As well as being able to play Powerball three times a week from August, lottery fans will also be able to take part in Lucky for Life every day from Monday, July 19.
The game is currently played twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays, with draws taking place at 10:38pm Eastern Time in Connecticut. The draw times will stay the same but it will now be held daily.
Lucky for Life is played in 25 states, plus the District of Columbia, and has a jackpot of $1,000 a day for life if you match all the numbers.
