Texas Lottery winner retires on the spot
Saturday December 11th 2010A lottery player who managed to win $4million in last Saturday’s Lotto Texas draw, wasted no time in waving goodbye to the 9 to 5 lifestyle. One of the first things Michael Thacker did before going to collect his winnings, was call up his employer. And after informing him of the good news, he retired on the spot.
Speaking to Texas Lottery organisers, Mr Thacker of Pasadena, said: “I didn’t call in and give notice, I called in and retired!”
With his cash payment of almost $2.7million before tax, Mr Thacker intends to buy a new car for his wife and a wrought-iron gate for his house. He says the rest will go towards helping family members and his retirement.
Gary Grief, executive director Texas lottery Commission, said: “It’s great to hear winners tell us they plan to use their prize to help family members and retire a little early.”
Mr Thacker made his decision to buy lottery tickets for the draw at The Express store on Space Centre Boulevard, Houston. For selling the winning ticket, the retailer will receive around $40,000 in commission.
