Student Wins Lottery, Avoids Summer Job
Tuesday June 4th 2019Kris Chrysanthopoulos’ dad told him to get a summer job – but then Kris checked his Mega Millions tickets.
Rather than his usual Scratch-Offs, 20-year-old college student Kris, from Oceanport, New Jersey, purchased several Mega Millions tickets for the May 28th drawing after noticing the impressive $414 million jackpot. He bought the tickets at The Mart, 590 Shrewsbury Ave., Tinton Falls in Monmouth County.
He put the tickets in his wallet and forgot about them for the next two days. His father invited him to lunch to talk about the need for Kris to get a summer job. As they drove to the restaurant, Kris hoped to avoid the lecture, and decided he might as well check his lottery tickets.
He pulled out his phone and checked his tickets on the NJ Lottery app. As he scanned the tickets he saw that one line matched all five white balls drawn on May 28th, only missing the Mega Ball. “Dad, I’ve got five numbers!” he shouted.
His father stopped the car, checked the numbers and asked his son if this was a joke. Kris assured him that the win was for real. They drove to the nearest Lottery retailer to validate the ticket and double-check the prize. They were both thrilled to learn that Kris did indeed have a Match 5 winning ticket worth $1 million!
Kris is excited to use some of the money to take his family on a trip, and save the rest for his future. As of now there’s no update on whether he will still be looking for a job this summer.
