A South Carolina couple braved wintery blizzards yesterday to claim their $2 million Powerball win. The pair from York, who have yet to be named, admitted they are still in shock about their recent windfall.

The married couple matched the first five numbers drawn in Wednesday night’s draw but didn’t realise they were winners until Friday morning, when a local radio station reported that a $2 million ticket had been sold in the area. The host added that the Quick Trip #1057, where the ticket had been purchased, would receive a commission of $20,000. After hearing the announcement, the husband remembered buying the Powerball ticket at that very store, on the Charlotte Highway in Clover, South Carolina and rushed to check his ticket.

"We were in denial," said the winner's wife. The pair even returned to work on Monday morning, unsure about what to do next and reluctant to miss a shift. The couple’s first chance to claim the second tier prize came yesterday and they weren’t deterred by the rain, snow or impending blizzard.

”It hasn't hit me yet," confessed the husband, who drove to Columbia despite the terrible weather conditions. ”Can you believe we are millionaires, and we didn't come Monday when the weather was fine because we were worried about going to work?" added his wife.

When buying the ticket, the husband opted to include the additional Power Play option; “That was the best $3 I ever spent,” he said. Had he matched the final Powerball number, the couple would have won the full $215 million jackpot.

In the two years since its format change, Powerball has created 19 new millionaires in South Carolina alone.
