Search for the SuperEnalotto winner
Tuesday August 25th 2009Europe’s biggest lottery jackpot of €146m from the SuperEnalotto has finally been won. The winner, who is a resident of the small Tuscan village of Bagone, seems to be intent on remaining unknown at this time as the search for the SuperEnaLotto winner continues.
The winning lottery ticket was bought for €2 at a bar about 75 kilometres north-west of Florence. Local residents celebrated the lucky winner’s newfound fortune at the bar with bottles of bubbly, however the identity of the winner remains unknown. Although the SuperEnalotto lottery winner has the right to remain anonymous, he/she only has 90 days in which to claim his/her tax free prize.
The lottery superdraw for the SuperEnalotto, which was broadcast on RAI state television, showed the winning numbers to be 10, 11, 27, 45, 79 and 88. With odds of selecting the winning numbers standing at 622 million to 1, this is the first time a jackpot has been won on the SuperEnalotto since January 31st 2009.
The unprecedented increase in Italian ticket sales reached €400m in July and stands at €300m so far for August, lottery organiser Sisal has reported. However with half of the revenue from the ticket sales going to the Italian government’s purse, they will arguably be the biggest winners of all as many flocked to buy lottery tickets for the impressive jackpot.
Italy’s SuperEnalotto began in 1997 and before this, the biggest previous jackpot was €100m. This was won last year by a winner from the Sicilian town of Catania, who remains anonymous. The next SuperEnalotto jackpot is set to start at €38m.
