Scratchcard player cruising after Maryland Lottery win
Monday February 7th 2011A lottery player from Maryland found out she’d won the holiday of a lifetime after scratching off a $5 Cruise for Cash instant ticket. Shirley Pendarvis went to buy lottery tickets at the Best 1 Food Market in Capital Heights last Tuesday, and after discovering she’d won $10 on a Blackjack game, must have thought it was her lucky day. And the 60-year-old wasn’t wrong.
Ms Pendarvis went on to scratch the Cruise for Cash ticket she’d also bought and found that her luck was really in – she’d won a seven-night cruise vacation for two.
“I saw I’d won a cruise. I’m so lucky. I held on to it real tight as everyone was gathering around.”
Ms Pendarvis, told Maryland Lottery organisers that she will take her sister-in-law, also called Shirley Pendarvis, on the cruise with her.
The pair will be flown to Florida where they will spend two nights in a deluxe hotel before setting sail with $1,000 of onboard credit and $500 worth of spending money.
