Restaurateurs collect Canadian lottery cheque in style

Tuesday January 18th 2011

It might have taken a group of Canadian lottery winners almost a week to come forward and pick up their $6.8million cheque, but when they finally showed up - they did it in style. The six-strong syndicate, made up of three sisters who all work at their family’s restaurant in Kitchener, Ontario, and three regular customers, pulled up outside lottery headquarters in Ontario in a limousine yesterday.

According to a report by 570 News, the winners knew they had become millionaires within hours of the lottery draw taking place, but decided to wait before revealing their identities.

The group’s spokesman, Brian Hutchins, said: “We had to think about it for a couple of days because we’re all in shock.”

The group went to buy lotto tickets for last Wednesday’s 6/49 Lotto draw, as they have done for the past two years. However, when they checked the ticket at a local convenience store the following day, the terminal began flashing and the lottery organisers were on the phone within minutes to confirm a jackpot win.

Mr Hutchins told reporters that he plans to retire and simply have some fun.
