Power Play makes Idaho lottery player millionaire

Friday February 25th 2011

Idaho’s Lottery has now created two millionaires in the space of just three months. A player who bought a ticket in the state ahead of Wednesday’s draw managed to match each of the five main numbers in order to win the second tier prize of $200,000. However, since they chose to pay an extra $1 for the Power Play option, their winnings were automatically boosted to $1million.

According to lottery organisers, the winning ticket was sold in Oneida County, near the Utah border. It seems the winner has yet to come forward and validate their ticket though, as organisers have advised anyone who visits east Idaho to play the lottery, to check their tickets in case they are holding onto a winner.

Idaho Lottery director Jeff Anderson said: "Three of the last six big Powerball wins in Idaho in the last year have had the Power Play multiplier turning what would normally be a $200,000 winning ticket into a million dollar winner."

The Powerball lottery jackpot has continued to roll over in recent weeks and now stands at an incredible $184million, which equates to a cash lump sum prize of just over $90million before state and federal taxes are deducted. The next draw will be held tomorrow night.
