Powerball win triggers lottery fever in Delaware
Tuesday February 22nd 2011A $1million lottery win in Delaware has resulted in a surge in the sale of tickets for one store. The Express Food Mart in the town of Delmar sold the winning ticket ahead of the Powerball Lottery draw on February 12. Hiren Brahmbhatt, the store clerk who sold the slip, told news website Delmarva Now that a local man had won the seven figure sum.
The player would have only won $200,000 had it not been for the fact he spent an extra dollar on the Power Play option which multiplied his winnings by five.
No one at the store has revealed the Delaware lottery winner's identity, but they have been keen to announce that they sold a $1million ticket thanks to a promotional banner outside the shop.
Mr Brahmbhatt said: "Now people have seen the sign and they play more than before."
The Powerball jackpot has now reached an impressive $155million and there will no doubt be plenty more customers looking to play the lottery at the store before Wednesday's draw.
