Powerball Jackpot Reaches $400 Million

Monday January 4th 2016

The Powerball jackpot has climbed to a gigantic $400 million ahead of the drawing on Wednesday 6th January, sending fans of the game into a frenzy of anticipation at the prospect of playing for one of the biggest prizes in history. The jackpot has not been won since a participant from Tennessee scooped $144.1 million on Wednesday November 4th 2015 and its value has been rising quickly as the rollovers have continued.

Four ticket holders came close to grabbing the jackpot in the most recent game on Saturday as they each matched five main numbers. One of those players, who came from Pennsylvania, won $2 million after utilising the Power Play option, while the other three - from California, Connecticut and South Carolina - each picked up $1 million.

As nobody was able to match the Powerball as well as the five main numbers, the next jackpot is likely to eclipse the $399.4 million amount which currently stands as the sixth biggest prize given away on the game. The Powerball record is $590.5 million, which was snared by Gloria MacKenzie in May 2013.

Changes made to the game in October 2015 were designed to increase the size of jackpots, as well as shorten the overall odds of winning any prize, and it may be that MacKenzie’s record comes under threat in the coming months or years. Following the excitement of Christmas, many players will view January as the perfect time to play Powerball and come into a life-changing amount of money, allowing them to fulfil their New Year’s resolutions in an instant.

You can buy tickets from authorized retailers in participating states and then check back on Lottery.net to see the winning numbers. It could just be that you become the first jackpot winner of 2016 and one of the biggest ever on the game. Good luck!
