Powerball Jackpot of $155.2 Million Won in Wisconsin
Thursday March 23rd 2017A Powerball player from Wisconsin became 2017’s second jackpot winner on Wednesday March 22nd, pocketing $155.2 million. The player, who bought their ticket in Pewaukee, became the Badger State’s 16th Powerball winner, making it the sixth most successful jurisdiction in the game’s history.
The winning Powerball numbers were 2, 9, 27, 29 and 42 with Powerball 9, and a further two ticket holders matched five main numbers to win $1 million each. You can find a full prize breakdown from the draw at the Powerball Numbers section.
The attentions of the nation will now focus on Pewaukee, a city of just over 13,000 people, situated less than 20 miles west of Milwaukee. Speculation will rage over whether the lucky player is a local or just someone passing through on Route 94 between the state’s most populous city and its capital, Madison. The ticket holder has 180 days to contact Wisconsin Lottery officials and will then have to decide between taking the full prize (before taxes) in 30 installments over 29 years, or accepting the cash lump sum of $92.4 million.
The top prize had been rolling since February 22nd, when an anonymous participant snapped up the seventh largest Powerball jackpot ever. The Purdue graduate, who bought his ticket in Lafayette won $435.3 million, but chose the $263.5 million cash payment, which worked out at $189.1 million after withholdings.
Saturday’s Powerball jackpot is worth $40 million and players can buy tickets in any of the participating states and jurisdictions in the run up to the drawing.
