Plymouth Bonus Ball
Monday December 29th 2008The bonus ball drawn on Saturday 13 December, 2008, helped a syndicate of teachers from Plymouth, England, to land a win of £100,395. The syndicate matched five of the six main numbers to put itself in line for a win of around £1,366, but it then matched the bonus ball as well to multiply its prize many times over.
The teachers all work at St Andrew’s Primary School in West Hoe, Plymouth, and they have been playing the UK National Lottery for 14 years. Denise Brown, who serves as the syndicate leader, found out about the win when one of the other members called her on the telephone on the Monday after the draw.
“I usually only check the tickets every few weeks so it was only when I had a phone call on Monday morning from one of the syndicate members asking if I had left the country with all the money, that I realised we had won!” Denise said. “At first I had no idea what she was talking about! It was such a surprise to hear we had won, I was in total shock, I thought it was a prank call!
Many of the syndicate members already had plans to do something special in 2009, and this includes two of them getting married. Other members are planning to spend their winnings on holidays and new cars, as well as celebration with family and friends.
“This win really will make 2009 a more comfortable year for everyone. We have all been on a real high since the win, it feels great!”
