What's a lottery player to do? You need your beauty sleep, but you love the Empire State's 10:30 PM Take 5 game and its great cash prizes.

The New York Lottery feels your pain, and that's why as of July 26, you can now play Take 5 every afternoon at 2:30 PM EST in addition to the old 10:30 PM drawing for the night owls.

In fact, there's no reason to limit yourself to just one draw, since you now enjoy double the chances to win those sweet Take 5 payouts seven days a week!

"Take 5 created more than 2.5 million cash prize winners last fiscal year," said New York Lottery Executive Director Gweneth Dean. "The added drawing for this popular game will give New York players more chances to win."

Ticket sales for the Midday draw close at 2:15 PM every day, so make sure to grab your tickets before then to enter that day's drawing.

The new draw time puts Take 5 into the same twice-daily draw times as New York's Numbers and Win 4 games, which already offered two draws per day.

Ticket prices, prize amounts and odds of winning are not affected by the new draw and remain the same.

Take 5 is still played just the same as before - simply choose your favorite five numbers from 1 to 39, then wait for the draw to find out if you've hit a prize. You can check your Take 5 numbers online to see if you're a winner.

If there's more than one winning ticket in a prize tier, the payout will be divided equally among the winners (pari-mutuel). The prize pool funds are distributed among the prize levels according to a percentage allocation.

If no one takes home the grand prize, the amount "rolls down" and is added to the pool for the second prize tier. The overall odds of hitting any prize are 1 in 8.77.

No doubt the new Midday draw will prove popular with Take 5 fans. The past three fiscal years have seen the game's ticket sales produce over $325 million to support local schools and over eight million prizes have been won.
