Michigan Man Thanks Dad For Lucky For Life Win
Friday June 29th 2018A Michigan man has admitted that he may have missed out on a fantastic Lucky for LIfe prize had his father not come round for a visit and decided to check through a collection of his old tickets.
Oblivious For Two Months
Bhavik Patel, 29, bought a ticket for the April 23rd drawing from the Speedway gas station at 16819 Marsh Road in Haslett, whilst he was seeing his sister in Lansing. However, he forgot about the entry for two months and it sat in a pile of unchecked tickets on his desk.
He was oblivious to the fact that he had matched five numbers to win the game’s second prize - $25,000 a year for life or a lump sum of $390,000 - and believes there is a chance that he may never have got round to going through the tickets. Luckily for Bhavik, his father took it upon himself to have a look.
Bhavik explained: “I buy tickets and a lot of times I will forget to check them right away. My dad was in town visiting recently and saw a pile of tickets on my desk, so he started checking them. If he hadn't done that, who knows when, or if, I would have found out that I had won."
Bhavik has now finally came forward to visit Michigan Lottery HQ, and has decided to take the annuity option of $25,000 a year for life. He does not have any major plans yet, other than paying some bills and saving the remainder. “Knowing I can count on this for the rest of my life gives me such a sense of security.”
How Lucky for Life Works
Lucky for Life players must select five numbers from 1 to 48, plus a Lucky Ball number from 1 to 18. There are ten prize tiers, and the top two categories give winners a choice between an annuity or a cash option. If Bhavik had matched the Lucky Ball as well as the five main numbers, he would have received $1,000 a day for life or a lump sum of $5.75 million.
The game costs $2 per play, and prizes start at $4 for matching just the Lucky Ball. There are currently 26 participating states, and Ohio and Kentucky have had the most winners in the top tier with three apiece.
