Mega Millions May Madness
Tuesday May 21st 2019This month is Mega Millions’ 17th birthday but players are getting all the presents, because tonight’s $367 million jackpot is the biggest-ever in May!
The jackpot climbed higher after no one hit all six numbers in the May 17 drawing: white balls 5, 17, 28, 32 and 63, and the gold Mega Ball 11. The cash amount is an estimated $228 million.
In the past, May has often produced multiple Mega Millions jackpot winners. In total over the years the top prize has been won 24 times this month, including three times each over four consecutive years in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
The last jackpot win was $50 million in Missouri on March 12. Since then, there have been over 11.8 million winners, including 18 new millionaires – or, if they included the Megaplier option, multimillionaires!
The last drawing on May 17 produced a total of 913,599 winning tickets, three of which were Match 5 winners. They matched the five white balls to win Mega Millions’ $1 million second prize. The winning tickets were sold in Massachusetts, Missouri and Texas.
Twenty-three lucky winners matched four of the white balls plus the Mega Ball to claim the $10,000 third prize. In fact, five of those are actually $30,000 prizes, because they added the Megaplier, which was 3X on Friday night.
Besides the March 12 jackpot, other Mega Millions top prizes won this year include $437 million in New York on January 1 (the eighth largest in the game’s history) and $273 in New Jersey on March 1.
