Mega Millions Jackpot Surpasses the $100 Million Mark
Wednesday February 5th 2014Since the Mega Millions changes came into force in October 2013, the Mega Millions jackpot has surpassed the $100 million mark for the second time. The jackpot, which is now worth $107 million, is the result of the previous nine draws failing to produce a jackpot winner.
In last night’s draw, one ticket holder from California came close to winning the jackpot when they matched all five main numbers to win the second tier prize. As the winning ticket was purchased in California the prize was worth $910,781, instead of the usual $1 million, as prizes in the Golden State are calculated on a pari-mutuel basis.
The only time that the Mega Millions jackpot has reached a nine figure sum since the changes came into effect was towards the end of last year. The jackpot topped $100 million at the beginning of November but continued to roll over and increase in value until it was finally won on December 17 2013. In the draw, one ticket holder from California and another from Georgia both matched the jackpot winning numbers to share the colossal top prize of $648 million.
With the jackpot exceeding the $100 million mark, it will be interesting to see if any players can hit the jackpot in Friday’s draw or if it will continue to roll over . To be in with a chance of winning a prize in Friday’s draw, make sure you have your Mega Millions tickets ready.
