Mega Millions Jackpot Smashes $400 Million Barrier
Wednesday June 29th 2016Mega Millions fans are bracing themselves for a massive windfall as the jackpot soared beyond the $400 million mark after no winner could be found in Tuesday’s drawing. Ticket holders had been hoping to get their hands on a fortune of $390 million, but with no one able to match all of the main numbers of 15, 17, 20, 35 and 55 and 7 as the Mega Ball, the top prize rolled over for a 32nd consecutive time.
Friday will now see players test their luck as they attempt to claim a jackpot estimated to be worth an incredible $415 million. If won, this prize will become the third largest prize ever won by a Mega Millions player, narrowly overtaking the $414 million claimed by two ticket holders from Florida and Maryland in March 2014. However, should the prize go unclaimed for too much longer, America could witness similar scenes to the Powerball pandamonium experienced in January 2016, when a $1.58 billion jackpot was on offer.
Mega Millions fans have been forced to wait for some time for the jackpot to swell to such an epic size, with the last top prize to reach these heights coming on December 13th 2013, when an astonishing $425 million was up for grabs. The prize, which subsequently rocketed to $648 million for the following drawing on Tuesday 17th December, became the second-largest Mega Millions prize in the game’s history and was won by Ira Curry of Georgia and Steve Tran of California.
Last night’s game may not have produced a winner, but it did provide fantastic news for two ticket holders, one from New Jersey and one from Texas, who successfully matched all five main numbers to bank an amazing $1 million each. Meanwhile, a further 4,174,150 players all collected prizes ranging from $1 for matching just the Mega Ball to $10,000 for matching four main numbers and the Mega Ball as well as the Megaplier.
If you’d like to be in with a chance of winning this Friday’s incredible $415 million Mega Millions jackpot, Mega Millions tickets can be purchased online or from authorized retailers in participating states prior to the drawing. Best of luck!
