Mega Millions jackpot hits $330m
Tuesday January 4th 2011Anyone who has decided to buy lotto tickets for tonight’s Mega Millions draw will be keeping their fingers crossed and hoping they can take a share of the huge $330million jackpot. The prize fund for the game, which is played twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays at 8pm Pacific Time, stood at $12million on November 12, after it was reset following a win earlier that week. Neither that game, nor any subsequent ones, have produced an outright winner and the jackpot has continued to roll over.
The huge amount of money on offer has led to an outbreak of lottery fever in America, with people across all 42 participating states and jurisdictions keen to make sure they are in with a chance of winning. According to lottery organisers, sales across the nation have been “brisk” and as a result they have increased the jackpot estimate to $330million.
If tonight’s game fails to produce a winner, then the accumulated prize fund will head even closer to becoming the largest pot ever. The current record was set on March 6, 2007, when the Mega Millions jackpot hit $390million.
With just a matter of hours left until the draw takes place, anyone thinking of buying lottery tickets online will want to act fast to make sure they don’t miss the deadline.
