Lotto Jackpot for Syndicate

Monday November 24th 2008

A UK Lotto jackpot worth £2,630,225 has been won by a syndicate of 23 workers at a housing project in Haverhill, Suffolk. The syndicate has been playing the UK Lotto game for just ten months, and with Christmas looming ever closer, landing the jackpot couldn’t have happened at a better time for them.

The syndicate is led by Lucy Czilinsky, and even before the jackpot win the syndicate members were feeling fairly pleased with themselves, as Lucy explained: “Since we started playing on Lotto we’ve had a few wins which we had agreed to use as a contribution towards our Christmas lunch. Our fund had already reached £160 – or about £7 each – so we were looking forward to celebrating our winnings together.”

Lucy buys the syndicate lottery tickets online every week, so she was the first to hear about the win in an official email that asked her to check her account.

“After I had opened the winning email, I can’t describe my feelings when I saw online that we’d won such a large amount of money,” she said. “I think I just stared at my computer screen for a long time in disbelief! After a few minutes, I composed myself and started to contact other syndicate members to share in the good news – it just felt wonderful to deliver details of our good fortune to everyone.”

Jill Brown is one syndicate member who made a particularly useful contribution to the win by picking the successful numbers. “I was absolutely stunned when I discovered it was my line of numbers that won,” she said. “I’m delighted because it couldn’t have happened to a nicer bunch of people. We all work incredibly hard and the money will mean a great deal to every single one of us.”

The syndicate members are now busy compiling their Christmas shopping lists. “Most of us are planning to use our winnings to pay off mortgages, but I think we’re all intending to put some aside to treat ourselves,” Lucy said. “Holidays, new cars and a very festive Christmas are at the top of our wish lists!”
