It Pays Big to Babysit – Grandparents Pick Up $1 Million Powerball Prize

Wednesday May 28th 2014

A Wisconsin couple who made the 30 hour round trip to Louisiana to baby-sit have been rewarded for their efforts with a $1 million Powerball prize. Donald and JoAnn Marek travelled over a thousand miles to look after their grandchildren for a week and, as luck would have it, purchased a winning ticket while they were there.

The Mareks were only too happy to make the journey to Louisiana once again this week in order to collect their life-changing prize from the lottery office in Baton Rouge. The couple matched all five main numbers but missed the Powerball number in the drawing held a week ago on May 21, securing themselves a second tier prize of $1 million.

57-year-old Donald revealed the win would go towards funding the couple’s retirement, which can now come a lot sooner. The Marek’s winning ticket was purchased at RaceTrac Petroleum in Slidell and the owners of the store will receive a $10,000 retailer bonus for selling the ticket.

The next Powerball drawing takes place tonight and is boasting an estimated jackpot of $152 million. The top prize has eluded players for over a month now and was last won on Wednesday 23 April by a single ticket purchased in Florida. Although the winner has yet to come forward and claim their prize, there is no rush as Powerball prizes do not expire for a full year after the draw takes place.

If you’d like to participate in tonight’s Powerball draw, tickets can be purchased online by following the Buy Tickets tab or in person from an authorised retailer. So far this year there has only been one Powerball jackpot larger than the one on offer tonight so ticket sales will likely be high. Lottery.net advises players have their tickets ready in plenty of time, or buy online, to avoid potentially length queues.
