Illinois Lottery Closes Claim Centers Due to COVID-19
Tuesday March 17th 2020The Illinois Lottery closed its claim centers beginning Tuesday, March 17, in response to concerns about COVID-19 (coronavirus). The Lottery says the closures will "support our communities and players by encouraging social distancing."
All claim centers throughout the state are closed until further notice:
- Chicago: James R. Thompson Center (JRTC), 100 W. Randolph Street
- Des Plaines: 9511 Harrison Street
- Fairview Heights: 15 Executive Drive, Suite 3
- Rockford: 200 S Wyman
- Springfield: Willard Ice Building, 101 West Jefferson Street
“As we continue to learn more about COVID-19, taking a more aggressive stance on helping to ensure the safety of our players and employees is prudent,” said Harold Mays, the Lottery's Acting Director. “We hope our players are patient and understanding as we work through this unprecedented challenge together.”
How to claim an Illinois Lottery prize
To find out if you've won a prize, check your numbers on the Illinois Lottery page, or download the free iOS app to get results on the go.
If you played online, any prize below $600 is automatically credited to your account.
The Lottery is encouraging all other winners to claim by mail. However, if your prize is $600 or under, you can still claim at any of the state's 7,200 lottery retailers.
All prizes under $1 million may be claimed by mail. For prizes of $1 million and above, call the Lottery Claims Department at 217-524-5147.
How to claim a prize by mail
- Complete the back of the ticket with your name, address, and signature
- Keep the ticket in a safe place
- Print out and complete a claim form - remember to sign it
- Make a copy of your ticket (front and back) and your claim form for your records
- Place the original ticket and claim form in an envelope. Place your return address on the envelope.
- Send via registered mail to:
Illinois Lottery Claims Department
P.O. Box 19080
Springfield, IL 62794-9912
For wins over $25,000, you may choose to have your prize directly deposited into your bank account. To do this, you'll need to complete and submit a direct deposit form and a voided check.
Under Illinois law, winners of $250,000 or more are able to stay anonymous by filling out the appropriate page of the claim form. The Lottery will still have the winner's details but will keep them confidential. However, this does not stop disclosure of the winner's name and city of residence if a request is made under the Freedom of Information Act.
Winning tickets are good for 12 months after the draw date.
Lottery will update response as needed
On Monday, the Lottery announced that only the Chicago claim center would close, with the other four centers in the state remaining open. However, on Tuesday the Lottery stated that all claim centers were closed until further notice.
The Lottery is working closely with the Governor's Office and the Illinois Department of Public Health in relation to COVID-19 and will update its response as new developments occur.
