Hunt Still On For Wisconsin Powerball Winner

Tuesday May 23rd 2017

The lucky Powerball player who won a $155million jackpot in the drawing on Wednesday 22nd March has still not come forward to claim their prize. The owner of the store which sold the all-important ticket has shed some light on how Wisconsin Lottery officials have gone about trying to track down the winner.

The winning ticket was bought at the Pewaukee Corner Pump, 1194 Capitol Drive in Pewaukee, matching the numbers 2, 9, 27, 29 and 42, plus the Powerball 9. Steve McMahon, whose family owns the Corner Pump and four other local gas stations, has no idea who might have won as the store sells hundreds of tickets a day, but says that surveillance footage was passed on to the Wisconsin Lottery the day after the drawing took place.

“I talked with a lady from the lottery. They think they know who it is,” McMahon told the Journal Sentinel. “But all they have is a picture - unless they have some sort of facial recognition software.”

Although lottery officials have a video of the winning ticket being bought, it is up to the player to come forward. Eileen O’Neill, deputy revenue secretary, explained: “The Lottery does not use video surveillance to try to identify winners. We would only use such technology if there was a need to conduct an investigation.”

The Wisconsin Lottery has urged players to check for old tickets to see if they might be the winner, and there is still a long time before the 180-day deadline for claiming the prize is reached on 18th September. The winner’s name will be made public, but they will not have to make a public appearance. When the winner does come forward, they will also have to decide whether to accept the full jackpot amount over 29 annual installments or a one-off cash sum of $93.1 million.

The current Powerball jackpot is worth a huge $250 million, the biggest lottery prize available anywhere in the world, and you can try to win by picking numbers online or going to an authorised retailer in one of the participating states or jurisdictions. Good luck!
