Hunt for $121 Million Powerball Jackpot Winning Delaware Ticket Holder Continues
Tuesday December 20th 2016One very lucky Powerball ticket holder from Delaware could be set to enjoy a Christmas like no other after winning Saturday’s $121 million jackpot. The winning playslip successfully matched the numbers 1, 8, 16, 40, 48 and Powerball 10 to land the nine-figure sum and in doing so became the first ticket since Wednesday November 26th to claim the game’s top prize.
While the identity of the winner remains a mystery, what is known is the location of where the ticket was purchased. Vernon Kirk, director of Delaware Lottery, revealed that the Selbyville Goose Creek store at 38452 DuPont Boulevard was the lucky seller, before going on to emphasise the enormity of the situation: “For one lucky winner in Delaware, this holiday season marks the beginning of the start of their life as a multi-millionaire,” said Kirk in a statement. “This is an incredible life-changing event, and the Delaware Lottery encourages the winner to take the time they need to make the decisions regarding prize claim options, and perhaps consult with a tax accountant or an attorney.”
The fortuitous Selbyville store has already attracted a lot of attention following the win, according to general manager Kristy Muir: "Without a doubt, this is huge news. I was pretty shocked just because it's a big deal for Delaware and especially a small town like us," she explained. Muir went on to say that the store is connected to an Arby’s fast food restaurant and an Exxon gas station, resulting in a variety of visitors, both regulars and travelers.
This latest jackpot win is Delaware’s tenth since the state first began participating in Powerball in 1992 and the second largest lottery prize secured by a Diamond State resident, narrowly trumped by a ticket holder who claimed a $214.7 million windfall in 2004. Once the victor has made themselves known to Delaware Lottery officials, they will be given the option of taking home either a lump sum of $72.1 million or the full $121.6 million in installments over the next 29 years. Saturday’s draw also saw two ticket holders win $1 million apiece. The players, from California and New York, each matched all five main numbers to take home a very handsome seven-figure sum.
