Gas stop makes Suffolk County man $25k
Wednesday March 9th 2011A 67-year-old father of one has had his life turned around after making a routine stop for gas. George Collora, of Holbrook, Suffolk County, was driving along Broadway Avenue in the town when he decided to stop and fill up at S&T Coastal. Mr Collora, who manufacturers aircraft parts and tools for a living, decided to buy an instant scratchcard while he was stopped.
It was only when he was back at the wheel of his vehicle that Mr Collora scratched off his ticket and discovered he’d just become $25,000 richer.
Mr Collora said: "I chose Magnificent Millions randomly, but I do like the $10 games. I went right back into the store to make sure."
Asked how he plans to spend his lottery windfall, he said he’ll leave that for his wife to decide.
Mr Collora and his family aren’t the only lottery players in America who will have to adjust to having a sizable bank balance. A Pennsylvania Cash 5 lottery ticket sold in Hatboro, Montgomery County, ahead of Monday’s draw is worth an impressive $800,000.
lottery officials say the winner has yet to come forward, and have urged the lucky player to sign the back of their ticket immediately.
