Florida Powerball Winner Claims $528.8 Million Prize
Wednesday February 17th 2016The Florida Powerball ticket holder who won a third share of Wednesday January 13th’s record-breaking $1.58 billion jackpot has claimed their prize and will attend a press conference today. The player bought their ticket at a Publix store in Melbourne Beach, a town with a population of approximately 3,000, and will reveal their identity to the assembled news crews at the Florida Lottery’s Tallahassee headquarters.
The mammoth jackpot was the result of a string of rollovers heading back to Wednesday November 4th 2015 and was split between the Florida winner, a ticket bought at a 7-Eleven in Chino Hills, California and John and Lisa Robinson of Munford, Tennessee. The lucky Floridian can choose to take the full $528.8 million in 30 payments over 29 years or, like the Robinsons, opt for a cash lump sum of $327.8 million before taxes.
John and Lisa Robinson appeared on national television to share their good news two days after their numbers came up and before they had even presented their winning ticket to the Tennessee Lottery for confirmation of their win, but America has been on the edge of its seat waiting to hear news of the owners of the other two tickets since the drawing took place. A number of hoaxes appeared on social media in the days following the draw from users claiming to be in possession of the winning entries. In addition, a 62-year-old nurse from Pomona, California was tricked into believing she was one of the lucky winners by her son.
Powerball returns tonight with a jackpot worth $189 million and you should make sure you look at the Powerball Numbers page after the drawing is finished to check your tickets. You don’t want to miss out on a potentially life-changing prize. Good luck!
