Florida Lottery Introduces New Games After Record-Breaking July

Wednesday August 10th 2016

The Florida Lottery this week added two new games to its portfolio in the shape of Pick 2 and Pick 5. In addition, existing draws Cash 3 and Play 4 have been renamed as Pick 3 and Pick 4 to bring them into line with the new lotteries. The new games are drawn twice a day and players can enter from as little as 50c for the chance to win up to $50,000.

“Most lotteries call their daily games Pick games,” said Tom Delacenserie, secretary of the Florida Lottery, “we were kind of the odd ones there, with a Cash and a Play. So, by rebranding them to the Pick name, we become more mainstream. As our visitors come down from the north, it’s more recognizable for them.”

Delacenserie remarked that having a consistent name for all four offerings created a more streamlined brand and expressed his hope that the new drawings would help boost ticket sales, which would in turn help out public education projects in the state. Returns from the new games are expected to hit around $31 million in the first year, according to economic experts in the Sunshine State.

Recent figures show the Florida Lottery posted its best ever-monthly financial results in July 2016, boasting $532 million in revenue during the 30 days. The amount is an increase of 17 percent on the same month in 2015, with new records set for sales of both draw game entries and scratch-off tickets. Of the huge total for the month, around $144 million will be transferred to the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund, which has benefited by more than $30 billion since the lottery began.

In addition to the Pick range, lottery fans in Florida can take part in a number of other draw games, including Powerball, Mega Millions and Florida Lotto. See the Florida Lottery section for game information and winning numbers from the biggest draws in the state.
