Clock ticking for National Lottery winners

Saturday December 11th 2010

A handful of National Lottery winners have just a matter of days left if they are to make this Christmas one to remember. Organisers have issued a final plea for a number of winning ticket holders to come forward and register a claim before their window of opportunity closes.

One UK lottery player, who bought a ticket for the June 19 draw in the St Edmundsbury borough of Suffolk, managed to match five numbers as well as the bonus ball. They have until this coming Thursday to claim a prize of just under £54,000.

EuroMillions players who bought a ticket in Islington, London, for the June 25 draw have an even bigger reason to check their numbers again. A ticket which matched the five main numbers and one lucky star on December 22 has still to be handed over, and the prize of over £267,000 claimed.

A National Lottery spokesman said: “Time really is running out for the winner of these prizes, but we are still hopeful that someone will come forward at the last minute to claim the money in time for Christmas.

“We’re urging everyone to check their old tickets again or look anywhere a missing Lotto ticket could be hiding."

While it clearly pays to check your numbers after buying lotto tickets, unclaimed cash will not be wasted. Prize money that is not handed out will be distributed among good causes supported by the lottery.
