Care Home Owner Caught Out by Lottery Scam

A care home owner caught out by a lottery scam found out the hard way and as a result his private care home in Gillingham has gone into receivership and forced to close as a result of one such lottery scam, leaving staff unpaid and residents looking for alternative care homes to move into. Mr Raj, the care home owner was told he had won €3 million in a foreign lottery but had to pay £70,000 to cover taxes before the winnings could be released.
Of course, his lottery win was nonexistent and never arrived causing financial difficulties for his business. The portfolio holder for adult services has said that the bank and the receivers are understanding in that they are dealing with real people and Medway Council who funded ten of the twelve residents at the home are stepping in to make sure all staff were paid.
If UK players want to be sure of any legitimate lottery win it is always best to stick to a game that you know such as the National Lottery game, Lotto or EuroMillions. Another point to remember is that you can’t win on a lottery that you have not entered but despite repeated advice on lottery scams, it still seems that many are falling victim believing they have won even though they have not bought any lotto tickets for a lottery game.
