Californian Man Claims $30 Million Mega Millions Jackpot
Wednesday April 16th 2014The Mega Millions drawing last night saw no players walk away with a jackpot win but the multi-state lottery still made one lucky ticket holder a multi-millionaire this week. Leopoldo Choi of Los Angeles claimed his $30 million Mega Millions jackpot on Monday, just ten days after he won the top prize.
Choi was the only player to match all five main numbers (1, 10, 15, 41 and 54) as well as the Mega Ball (9) in the drawing held on April 9 and became the sole winner of the $30 million double rollover jackpot. His winning Quick Pick ticket was bought from the Century City 76 gas station on Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles and the store’s owners have already received a retailer bonus of $150,000 for selling the winning ticket.
Upon arrival at California Lottery’s San Fernando office, Choi, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed he would be accepting the win as a one off payment. As a result, he took home a lump sum of $16.6 million.
The current Mega Millions jackpot now stands at $38 million, after three successive draws without a top tier winner. The highest prize won in last night’s draw was worth $320,000 after one Californian ticket matched all five main numbers but missed the Mega Ball. The Californian winner didn’t receive the usual $1 million prize for the Mega Millions Match 5 tier as prizes in the state are calculated on a pari-mutuel basis and so depend on ticket sales.
