California Store Celebrates Selling SuperLotto Plus Ticket Worth $72 Million
Friday January 27th 2017Staff at a grocery store in California are coming to terms with the fact that a jackpot-winning SuperLotto Plus ticket worth $72 million was purchased from on their premises. The entry, which successfully matched the numbers 9, 13, 27, 29, 33 and Mega Ball 10 on Wednesday January 25th, originated from Cardenas Market in Hesperia and has prompted the retailer to proudly display a sign reading ‘Millionaire Made Here’.
Josue Tellez, the store’s manager, revealed to the Daily Press that he had received a phone call from California State Lottery officials on Wednesday night, shortly after the draw had taken place, informing him that his outlet had sold the winning SuperLotto Plus ticket for that evening’s draw. Tellez explained how this is, to his knowledge, the first lottery ticket sold at Cardenas to land a such a huge prize.
The following day, Paul Nares, California Lottery’s District Sales Supervisor, and his team hurriedly made their way to the lucky store. Upon arrival, the lottery official claimed that the Cardenas chain was on something of a “hot streak”, having recently sold a scratcher worth $1 million, before confirming that the Hesperia store was in for quite a reward: "This particular market chain is doing really hot and they are going to get a bonus for this ticket, which is half of one percent. I was talking to Sacramento this morning and it's approximately $365,000.”
Speaking during a press gathering at the store, Nares also urged the mystery winner to "immediately sign the back of their ticket in ink and keep it in a safe place until they can get to one of the nine California Lottery district office locations." He also issued a reminder to the player, as well as future winners, by stating that all state lottery prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the draw date. "Generally you will see people come forward pretty quick,.” he said. "They don't want to wait too long.”
