California Player Wins $447.8 Million Powerball Jackpot
Monday June 12th 2017One of the largest Powerball jackpots in history was given away on Saturday night as a single player from California matched all five main numbers plus the Powerball to win an astonishing $447.8 million. The wait is now on for the ticket holder to come forward and claim their prize, and they have a year from the date of the drawing to make contact with lottery officials.
The Powerball numbers drawn at the weekend were 20, 26, 32, 38 and 58, with Powerball 3. The jackpot had grown on the back of 19 drawings without a winner, making it the biggest prize of the year and the largest since the Robin Egg 2016 Nominee Trust from New Hampshire won $487 million on July 30 last year.
The lucky winner can decide whether to take the full jackpot amount as an annuity, paid in annual installments over 29 years, or accept a one-off cash sum estimated to be worth $279.1 million. The store which sold the all-important ticket - the Marietta Liquor and Deli in Menifee - will also receive a $1 million bonus.
The residents of Menifee are excited to see who will step forward as the winner. Matthew Alberre, whose family owns the store, said: “I’ve been waiting all day for somebody to show up… We really don’t know when he's going to come by, but whoever it was, you know, congratulations. It's definitely a life-changer for them and us.”
As well as the jackpot winner, over 2.7 million other players picked up prizes on Saturday, including three participants who matched five main numbers to land $1 million each. Take a look at the latest Powerball Numbers to learn more about the latest results.
As the wait for more news about the winner continues, Powerball fans can look forward to Wednesday’s game and the chance to win $40 million. You can choose numbers online or by visiting authorized retailers in participating states and jurisdictions. Good luck!
