Bar manager wins $1m on Georgia Lottery scratchcard

A woman who decided to buy lotto tickets while stopping to fill up her car has become an instant millionaire. Penny Green pulled in to the Gateway Texaco gas station on the outskirts of Savannah, Georgia, and after topping up her vehicle, the 39-year-old thought she’d spend $10 on a Georgia Lottery Black instant scratchcard. To her amazement, she discovered she’d won the jackpot which promptly brought on a laughing fit.

Speaking to Georgia lottery officials, Mrs Green said: “I was waiting for my gas tank to fill up and got a ticket. I saw the $1million and had to keep looking back and forth at it. I started laughing hysterically and shed a few tears.”

Mrs Green, a bar manager and mother of three, said she plans to spend the money on her retirement and helping her children through college.

Profits generated by the Georgia Lottery are helping youngsters all over the state to receive a good education. To date, $12.3billion has been raised by the lottery, which has been spent on various initiatives in schools and colleges.
