$473.1 Million Powerball Jackpot Won in Arizona
Thursday April 28th 2022A lucky lottery player in Arizona took home the Powerball jackpot last night after 30 rollovers. The top prize was last won in Connecticut on February 14.
Player enthusiasm drove the jackpot above previous estimates to reach $473.1 million, with a cash option of $283.3 million.
The winning ticket matched all six numbers drawn on Wednesday, April 27: the white balls were 11, 36, 61, 62, and 68 and the red Powerball number was 4.
The lucky ticket was sold at QuikTrip near Gilbert and Warner roads in the town of Gilbert. The retailer will receive a bonus for selling the winning ticket.
It’s not the first time there’s been a big winner at a local QuikTrip in Gilbert - a Mega Millions ticket worth $1 million was purchased there last June.
“We are excited to celebrate this huge $473.1 million Powerball jackpot win for one very lucky Arizonan,” said Arizona Lottery Executive Director Gregg Edgar. “This is the biggest ever jackpot won on a single ticket in our state, and it is a life-changing moment for this winner. It also means millions of dollars to our state’s economy, to this winner’s community, and to the vital programs and services funded by Arizona Lottery ticket sales.”
Grand Canyon State players have hit 14 Powerball jackpots since the game launched there in 1994.
The winner has 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim their win. There are three claim options. The winner can mail the signed ticket, a completed claim form, and a copy of their government-issued ID to the AZ Lottery, put the claim in the secure drop box at the Lottery’s Phoenix location, or claim in person at an Arizona Lottery office in Phoenix or Tucson.
As per a 2019 Arizona law, lottery winners of over $100,000 are automatically granted anonymity for 90 days, and can choose to keep their details private permanently - so it’s possible we won’t find out the winner’s name.
There were more than 1.4 million winners in last night’s draw, including a ticket in Indiana that hit the $1 million Match 5 second prize by matching the five white balls. There are nine ways to win a Powerball prize, so make sure to check your tickets to find out if you’re due a payout.
Wednesday was the third Powerball win of 2022. Two tickets in California and Wisconsin shared a $632.6 million jackpot on January 5, the seventh-highest in the game’s history.
A Wisconsin couple came forward the following month to claim their half of the amazing prize.
Next up, it was a very sweet Valentine’s Day for a Connecticut player who hit $185.3 million on February 14.
The Powerball jackpot has reset to its current $20 million starting value for the next draw on Saturday. There's also a $43 million Mega Millions top prize available in Friday's draw. Pick up your tickets for both games now.
