$214 Million Powerball Jackpot Won in Florida
Tuesday May 7th 2024The Powerball jackpot rolled over 12 times before it got won by a single winning ticket. The ticket was purchased at a Publix store, located at 9050 Biscayne Boulevard in Florida and it brought the lucky participant an amazing prize worth $214.9 million.
One Powerball player managed to match all the winning numbers which were drawn on Monday, May 6—7, 23, 24, 56 and 60, with the red Powerball 25. The Power Play was 2X, meaning that participants who added this option had doubled their non-jackpot prizes.
There was only one player, from Idaho, who got very close to winning the jackpot. The Idahoan matched only five numbers and won $2 million as, in the Gem State, the Power Play option is automatically added to Powerball tickets. Thanks to the Power Play feature, more impressive prizes were won on the night—seven players each won $100,000 for matching four numbers plus the Powerball. The winning tickets were purchased in Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Kansas, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

This is the 17th time when the Powerball jackpot was won in Florida. The biggest one however was won back in May 2013 and it was worth $590.9 million. The prize was claimed by Gloria C. Mackenzie, a widow who was 84 years old at that time. She didn’t waste much time and claimed the prize in about two weeks from the draw. Gloria chose the cash lump sum option of $370 million. The ticket was purchased at a Publix store in Zephyrhills.
The Sunshine State is lucky when it comes to other lotteries as well. For example, the biggest Mega Millions jackpot was won in Florida in August 2023. The record-breaking prize was worth $1.6 billion and it rolled over 31 times before it got won. The jackpot was claimed by Saltines Holdings, LLC and they took the cash option of $794.2 million.
Currently, the Powerball jackpot has been reset to $20 million but if you need higher stakes in order to enter, you should know that the Mega Millions on offer for the next draw is over $300 million.
