$1 Million Nebraska Mega Millions Prize Expires Soon
Friday September 11th 2020There are a million reasons to check your Mega Millions tickets, Nebraska Lottery players! A $1 million prize must be claimed by September 20 or it will expire and be gone for good.
The lucky Mega Millions ticket was sold in Lincoln, NE at Mai’s Market (previously Schmick’s Market), at 1340 West O Street.
The second prize-winning "Match 5" ticket matched all five winning main numbers in the March 24, 2020 drawing - 2, 8, 16, 18, and 31 - only missing out on the gold Mega Ball.
The winner has 180 days to claim their seven-figure prize. Technically, that means the ticket expires on Sunday, September 20.
However, all Nebraska Lottery offices are closed on Sundays, so the ticket holder will need to claim by 5:00 PM CT on Friday, September 18 at the latest.
With the deadline looming, there's no time to lose, so start excavating your glove compartment and junk drawer now!
The first thing the winner should do is sign and fill out the back of the ticket. Lottery tickets are bearer instruments, so if the ticket is unsigned and is lost or stolen, the prize can be claimed by anyone with the ticket in their possession.
All winnings of $20,000 and above must be claimed in person at Nebraska Lottery Headquarters, 137 NW 17th Street in Lincoln. Opening hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. The Lincoln office may be reached by phone at 402-471-6100.
The Lottery will withhold Nebraska state taxes of 5 percent and federal taxes of 24 percent from the prize before it is paid out.
